New York was Fabulous and so were our Finds!

February 24th, 2011

We are super excited about the new stuff coming in daily!  We put great thought into what we brought back from New York and Atlanta.  We looked for the most unique finds.  Sometimes, you wonder if you will ever find that new product to excite you as your browse through the clocks with old doll heads, toilet bowl paper clip holders, ballon flower vases, you get the idea.  We saw so many fabulous pieces of jewelry that I can’t stop thinking about.  My fave that we found is more of a throw back than a totally new concept, but it is the hip version of the earring tree.  My discrption wouldn’t do it justice, but trust me, they are super cool!  We also brought back the brand new division of Tokyomilk, Dark.  With fragrances like Bittersweet, Everything & Nothing,  and Tainted Love;  it has already peeked our customers’ interest and we’re selling quite a bit.  The collection also has a lip balm ($7).  Tokyomilk also delivered new lotions to match their already fabulous scents at $18.  Lollia’s hip sister may just overshadow her in the near future!

Don’t you wish you knew what else we found?!

Bring on 2011!

January 14th, 2011

I hate to say that I am glad to see 2010 go, but I am.  It was not the best for us.  To round out 2010, we got a call from our bank saying that they had arrested a man from Atlanta trying to cash a check that they knew we hadn’t written.  Queensborough isn’t a small bank, but they still know their customers and at the end of the day still take pride in a job well done.  I do believe that if that teller that found the suspect suspicious worked on our store break in, we’d already have our man.  She could have just cashed the check.  I saw a copy of it and it looked legit.  But, she didn’t , she questioned him, she had another worker come out and make small talk while she called us and then the police.

The next day we packed the kids up and headed West for the New Year.  Our dearest friends live in Jackson Hole, so what a better way to ring in the New Year than with friends!  I have to say, I left December Sales here, my husband left his work and the kids didn’t think about school.  We saw buffalo, deer, elk, wild horses and a coyote or two.  The kids skied, we hit the spa and the guys did it all.  As the snow fell on New Year’s Eve, we sat with friends in their dining room sharing a meal and just the joys of being together.  We couldn’t see the Tetons that surround their house.   The kids sipped sparkling Cider and we popped the Champagne, the way it should be done, with friends, looking towards the future, knowing that when the daylight comes the beauty of the mountains would be visible and we would have a fresh start at another year.  So, really 2010 could have been worse.   Even with the break in, the check cashing, the trying economic times; we have a lot to be thankful for.  Nobody was hurt in the breaking-stuff is replaceable, people aren’t.  A teller took it upon herself to go beyond what most would bother to do.  We have loyal customers who continue to support our shop.  So as we start the New Year, we are hopeful and thankful.  We are hopeful for those that hit hard times  that their luck will change.  We are hopeful that we can see the good in bad situations.  We are thankful for the bad that could have happened, but didn’t.  But most of all in 2010 we are thankful for those things that can’t be bought with money in gift shops,  for good times with friends and family and the many memories yet to be made.  Here’s hoping your 2011 is a good one.

So what do I buy my grandmother and mom?

Girl’s Night

October 28th, 2010

Grab your Gal Pals and make a night of it, November 11th at The Swank Company.  This year, we will have mini massages by Michelle James Salon, live music by Ruskin, food, girlie cocktails and something we’re super swanked about, our first ever Swank Accessory Swap.  You know you have a fabulous pair of earrings that just blend in with your hair or a bracelet that your old boyfriend gave you, even a necklace that you have nothing to match.  We’re even going to include clutches.  So this is the scoop, put your jewelry in a clear bag.  When you get to the party, there will be a jewelry table and a clutch table.  The girls will be there to help you select something that will be totally new to you!  It’s the Swank way to recycle. This is also your first chance to see all our Christmas faves from California and Atlanta.  The entire store will be 20% off and of course, we will be giving away more than we should!  We’ll make sure to snap a photo of you and the guy in the red suit (You can pick up your photo the next week.). We just had to include him this year!  After all how many people do you know that can pull off faux fur cuffs and a red suit?  RSVP for a Swank Thanks!(Call us (706)364-3421 **theswankco@gmail.com. We’ll get it started around 7pm so we’ll see you when you get here!  Consider yourself invited!

Little Pink Houses for you and me!

October 12th, 2010

I have always admired Jimmy Carter for his work with Habbitat for Humanity.  It overwhelms me to think of the children out there without a home, but where do you start?  How about with a discount?  For every set of  twin sheets ( kids) brought in from now until the end of the year, I will give you 25% off your entire purchase.  They don’t have to be new, just in good shape.  We will donate these to Augusta Urban Ministries.  Your donation will help to get kids off the floor and maybe one day, there will be little Pink Houses for everyone.

If pink doesn’t work for you, we also have one in blue!
